Battery health projections

The Battery Health Projection panel takes the measured state of your battery and projects how it is likely to evolve over time. Every figure here is a forward-looking estimate derived from your vehicle's historical telemetry, not a reading from Tesla's internal diagnostic system.

How the projections are built

The panel uses the State of Health (SoH) measured for your report, the vehicle's odometer reading, its age, and the pattern of charging sessions recorded in your history. From these it derives the trend metrics below.

Estimated SoH

The Estimated SoH is the State of Health figure calculated for your battery at the time of the report. It expresses the share of the original factory capacity that remains today (for example, 92% means roughly 92% of the pack's original usable energy is still available). It is the anchor for every projection on the panel.

Annual Degradation Rate

The Annual Degradation Rate estimates how many percentage points of capacity your battery loses per year. It is calculated by spreading the total capacity loss so far (100% minus the Estimated SoH) across the vehicle's age, then adjusting for your usage pattern. A typical Tesla pack loses on the order of 1–2% per year, with the steepest losses early in life and a slower, flatter curve afterwards.

Distance to the 70% warranty floor

Tesla's battery warranty guarantees that the pack will retain at least 70% of its original capacity over the warranty period. The panel projects how far you can still drive before the battery is expected to reach that 70% floor.

It does this by combining your Annual Degradation Rate with your average distance driven per year (your odometer reading divided by the vehicle's age) to estimate the additional kilometres (or miles) remaining before capacity is forecast to cross 70%. This is a planning figure, not a guarantee — actual degradation depends heavily on how the car is used.

Daily Range Reduction

The Daily Range Reduction translates the degradation trend into something tangible: the small amount of driving range, on average, that the battery loses each day at the current rate. It is derived from your rated range and the Annual Degradation Rate. The daily number is tiny, but it accumulates — which is what the longer-term projections capture.

Remaining Useful Life

The Remaining Useful Life estimates how long the battery can continue before reaching a chosen end-of-life threshold (commonly the 70% warranty floor) at the current degradation trend. It is expressed in years and is a direct consequence of the Estimated SoH and the Annual Degradation Rate: the higher the SoH and the slower the yearly loss, the longer the projected life.

DC Fast-Charge Fraction

The panel also reports a DC Fast-Charge Fraction — the share of your recorded charging sessions that were DC fast charges (Supercharging or other rapid charging).

A session is classified as DC fast charging when its average power exceeds 25 kW. Anything at or below 25 kW is treated as AC / home charging. This threshold lets the projection account for charging habits: a high DC fast-charge fraction tends to be associated with faster long-term degradation, because rapid charging stresses the cells at higher voltage and temperature.

Diagnostic disclaimer

These figures are estimates, not a diagnostic. Every value on the Battery Health Projection panel is a projection derived from your vehicle's historical telemetry — odometer, age, measured SoH, and charging history. They are not official Tesla battery diagnostic logs and should not be treated as a guaranteed forecast. Real-world degradation depends on climate, driving style, charging habits, and factors outside this estimate. For an authoritative assessment of battery condition, consult a Tesla service centre.
